New Property Tax Rules for Homeowners in Denmark

On Monday, 24th of March 2025, the Danish Tax Agency (Skattestyrelsen) will open access to the annual tax statements for the income year 2024. Around 4.9 million citizens will be able to see their tax payments for the year and check if they have paid too much or too little tax.

For most citizens, the annual tax statement will be familiar from previous years. However, for nearly 2.1 million homeowners, it will be the first time they can see their total property tax payments on the statement.

How to Check and Correct Your 2024 Tax Information

The new property tax rules mean that since 1st January 2024, homeowners have been paying both land tax and property value tax as part of their ongoing tax payments throughout the year. With the 2024 annual tax statement, the sum of these tax payments will be included as part of the total tax payment.

The opening of the annual tax statement on 24th March 2025 also gives citizens the opportunity to check and correct their information and add relevant deductions. Skattestyrelsen has already opened for citizens to add expenses related to various services in 2024, such as cleaning, childcare, and gardening, performed at home or in holiday homes.

Maximising Your Service Deductions for 2024

Work performed in 2024 must be paid by 28th February 2025 to be eligible for deductions in the 2024 annual tax statement. The service deduction is up to DKK 11,900 per person in 2024.

The deadline to correct the 2024 annual tax statement is 1st May 2025. Citizens with a tax return form, such as the self-employed, certain landlords, and citizens with foreign relations, can correct their annual tax statements until 1st July 2025.
